Applying these innovative insights can make these arguments and challenges disappear.

Unlike most people's expectation of rural deployments, you might consider targeting SME's in urban areas. There are several reasons for this:

?There is a growing demand in business for bandwidth capable of carrying symmetrical traffic, for voice, applications and uploading of larger files.

?There is a small but growing need for separated last mile services. Currently, however many wired service providers you have, they all use the incumbents' last mile infrastructure based on its nearest telephone exchange location unless you have paid for an expensive dig from the next nearest exchange. This leads to single points of failure and the potential for business communications to be down for days, as can happen say with a cable duct fire somewhere in the spoke.

Your worst case environment would be a very high-density urban area with lots of interfering buildings, has multiple fibre networks, ADSL and SDSL in every exchange, hundreds of competing suppliers, a restrictive property planning regime with many 'listed' buildings, and no spare spectrum for FWA except the public 5.8GHz band.

To do this, because of the scale of competition from other service providers, your model needs to be disruptive. It has to offer things that businesses need (like QoS, toll-quality VoIP, high-quality video, symmetric bandwidth, higher capacities and network separation etc) at a lower cost.

This means stripping all unnecessary cost out of the model. You'll benefit from a quality RF planning tool that gives you a major advantage over other operators - mapping exactly where you can provide service, how to set up the customer antenna, what bandwidth can be achieved etc, based on your base-stations. You need to know exactly how to tune base-stations to avoid blackspots - without needing an RF team.

Although Wi-Fi and WiMAX often get confused, they are very different from an operators perspective. Wi-Fi is plug and play with no control over the wireless interface. WiMAX is not, it behaves more like a carrier ATM network. Wi-Fi is built into laptops and handsets, whereas FWA WiMAX requires larger standalone receivers (yours should mount on customer rooftops for optimum utilty).

The benefit is that WiMAX is very spectrally efficient, at least 50% more so than 3G networks, so it has much higher data-carrying capabilities in limited spectrum. All Wi-Fi shares the same public spectrum - WiMAX can work across a wide range. Wi-Fi provides service over a range of 100m, your WiMAX needs to provide 10Mbps over a range of 1.3km from a base-station non-line-of sight.

WiMAX can create carrier-class networks, Wi-Fi cannot ?not even with mesh networks. However, Wi-Fi with WiMAX backhaul gets some of the benefits of WiMAX as the backhaul such as VPNs. A lot of WiMAX customer equipment will come with Wi-Fi built in.

Dont wait for mobile (802.16e) WiMAX ?your experience with vendors may be that they're around fourteen months to two years behind on their promised delivery dates, and further delays could occur to key requirements. Dont expect good enough 802.16e equipment to build a network with until late 2007 at the earliest, and no usable CPE until 2008 ?as its mobile battery life is crucial and that will take time to get right.

There are big enough markets for FWA now. The most important thing is to grab the scarce resources first ?spectrum etc ?and make them yours. Except in those undeveloped countries without a mobile operator, mobile WiMAX will be very difficult to establish against incumbent operators with large installed bases because the areas covered are important to customers ?which is not a consideration for FWA.

Michael is the owner of FreedomFire Communications....including DS3-Bandwidth.com and Business-VoIP-Solution.com. If your internet connection speed has the proper bandwidth, why does latency slow it down? Or does it? Just how exactly does latency affect your internet? These are just some of the common questions asked......what follows is some answers in both technical and layman's terms.

Latency is the time it takes your data (packets) to get from point A (your house/modem) to point B ( the destination). Latency happens because of each of the "stops" your data has to make on the way to point B. These stops, called hops, are the different routers and in some cases servers across the internet that handles and routes traffic accordingly. The more hops that get added into the route of your data, the higher your latency will become. The farther away point B is, typically higher latency is experienced, simply because there is more distance and hops encountered. Also, each of these hops can also become busy so to speak, therefore the busier they get the more time it will take them to respond to your traffic requests, hence higher latency.

Most file transfer over the Internet uses TCP/IP. The receiver constantly sends messages back to the sender (ACKS) letting it know all is will or if not which packets need to be resent. If the channel has high latency this reverse communication take too long causing transmitter to stop sending until ACKS are received.

TCP also has a slow start mechanism. The sender has no idea of end-to-end channel capability. A slow start is designed to prevent overwhelming intermediate slower links.

Esentially, your bandwidth is the speed between you and your ISP, anything outside that, your ISP has no control over.

Actually, latency may or may not be an issue. Because latency is the delay between getting information from point A to B, it's much more of an issue in interactive applications then large transfers.

With large transfers, if your bandwidth is sufficient, reliable, and properly configured, you won't notice much of a latency issue with high latency connections. Once the "pipe is primed", the data is flowing at full speed. As long as the ACK packets are returned at a regular interval frequent enough that retransmissions don't occur, the flow will be steady and the only delay is really just during the initial startup of the transfer.

However, with interactive applications, that initial delay is what really can kill you. While it's exaggerated, say you have a 1 second latency and sending a packet takes 1 second. If you are sending a file that's 10 packets long, your total connection time is 11 seconds. If you are sending a single packet and waiting for a response back of a single packet, and you do this twice, your total connection time will be 8 seconds but yet you only sent 40% as much traffic.

Web traffic is kind of in between the two. It's not typically a large transfer, but it's not highly interactive like a online game. Typical page traffic is short bursts of requests (high latency) followed by longer periods of inactivity while you look at the page. There are a few tricks that can be done to help reduce this as an issue. There are proxy servers and pre-fetch utilities that will "preload" the page for you. During that time where you are looking at the page and your connection is setting idle, the prefetcher can download pages that the current one is linked to. When you request one, hopefully the page has been cached and can be displayed much quicker. If not, you are no worse off then having to wait for it to be loaded. This can work good for more static pages but if you are looking for something for dynamic pages (e.g. Google Maps), a prefetcher doesn't work as well or at all. Also, checking to see if your browser is using the appropriate number of connections can improve things.

The bottom line is there is a relationship between bandwidth and latency. But it may or may not be an issue.

Michael is the owner of FreedomFire Communications....including DS3-Bandwidth.com. Eventually, you'll understand exactly what I am talking about. See, there is more than one way to reach your prospects. What works for you will eventually come down to your own personal preference and style. Ultimately, you will need to test these two methods to see which works best for you.

Let me go on record by saying that I neither condone nor condemn either of these methods. I am only acknowledging that they exist. I don't want this to turn into a moral debate. There are marketers who use both these tactics. Both can be used successfully. The key is understanding them both and the consequences of their use.

Let's take good cop first because that's the easy one to use. Good cop is where you approach your prospects with a nice friendly email, sympathizing with their situation and offering your help. You speak to them like you're their best friend. The approach is non confrontational. It would be very difficult to put anyone off with this type of approach.

The problem with it is that it's also very lackluster. Prospects have turned a deaf ear to this feel good approach for the most part because the majority of marketers use it. The message received by the prospect is one that has been done to death. Therefore, it becomes very difficult to convert the prospect into a buyer unless you are very convincing or can show an awful lot of social proof.

The bad cop approach is when you pretty much tell your prospect that if they don't get your product, they're going to end up on the street with a monkey and a tin cup begging for spare change. The Rich Jerk, as you might recall, used this approach. He had quite a mouth on him. It worked for him. But it won't work for everybody. For one thing, you need to know your target market. The Rich Jerk knew his. He tailored his message to this market and it translated into millions of dollars in sales.

Ultimately, you have to decide which approach you want to use. They both can work. As long as you understand the pluses and minuses of each, you'll be fine.

Of course, you can always try to find somewhere in between the two.

To YOUR Success,

Steven Wagenheim

Tired of busting your behind for peanuts online? Combining all the good stuff of a UMPC (Ultra-Mobile PC, to the uninitiated) with a built-in HSDPA modem, it's the perfect tool for getting the internet on the move.

Features of the HTC Shift

Known round the world as an Ultra-Mobile PC, or a sub-laptop, the HTC Shift is an absolute powerhouse of a device. The trap many are going to fall into, though, thinking it's a mobile phone. Because it's not, it won't do phone calls (and dear lord, if it was, that'd be one BIG mobile phone!) What we have here is essentially a laptop in a squashed-down body. You know it's a fully featured PC, because it comes complete with Windows Vista Business, the latest in the long line of Windows operating systems, designed to give you all the grunt and power of a what you might call a 'proper' laptop. But combined with that, it also includes a stripped down version of Windows Mobile. Why, you may ask? Well, once you've finished using one of the many programs in Vista, you just switch it to mobile mode, and you get a lot of functionality, and you get your messages, without Vista being left on, draining the battery. That's just an awesomely clever thing for HTC to have built into the Shift.

And then, of course, you have a long, long list of other features. You have full Office functionality, you have full internet functionality and of course, full email functonality. So, whether you're using the HTC Shift for work, rest or play, it will instantly shift (geddit?) into whatever gear you need! Add in to that a massive 7 inch screen, and security in the form of biometrics (fingerprint scanner, the ultimate in security, to you and me), and it makes the HTC Shift one hell of a powerful device.

Mobile broadband - the future!

But the HTC Shift mobile PC's real party trick is mobile broadband. At speeds of up to 3.6Mbps. Built in. Just imagine that for a second. You're out on the train, trying to organise tickets to go see a film after work. The cinema's automated booking service is a nightmare. But you're not worried, because you have an HTC Shift, so you change it from Windows Mobile to Vista mode (a process that takes all of, ooh one button-press!), and book the tickets online. And then jump on Messenger and tell your friend the tickets are booked without having to pay for a phone call.And all the time you do it, you'll be getting that lovely warm feeling inside, knowing that with mobile broadband, you're getting internet speeds twice as fast as the average your friends get, sat at home!
Streamyx Gombak
Streamyx Hulu Klang
Streamyx Kajang
Streamyx Batu Caves
Streamyx Hulu Langat
Streamyx Kepong
Streamyx Klang
Streamyx Pelabuhan Klang
Streamyx Seri Kembangan
Streamyx Shah Alam
Streamyx Subang Jaya
Streamyx Sungai Buloh
Streamyx List of Buildings
Ez 4g
Streamyx

HTC Shift - The Ultimate Mobile Broadband Device!

In a world where broadband internet access is everyone's goal, one device rules them all: the awesome HTC Shift.

Due to be released on Orange very soon, the HTC Shift is all set to shake up the world of mobile broadband, because it is, simply, the ultimate all-in-one solution. And then jump on Messenger and tell your friend the tickets are booked without having to pay for a phone call.And all the time you do it, you'll be getting that lovely warm feeling inside, knowing that with mobile broadband, you're getting internet speeds twice as fast as the average your friends get, sat at home!
Self%20installation%20guide
Streamyx Speedtest
Agent Registration
Contact Us
Terms And Conditions
Privacy Policy
Disclaimer
Streamyx Kuala Lumpur
Streamyx Petaling Jaya
Streamyx Puchong
Streamyx Selayang
Streamyx Ampang
Streamyx Cheras
Streamyx Gombak
Streamyx Hulu Klang

Understanding DSL Internet Service

DSL or Digital Subscriber Line is a type of broadband Internet connection. This type of broadband Internet requires you to have a phone line. Unlike dial up, you can actually use the phone while you are connected to the internet.

What are the benefits of a DSL Internet connection? DSL allows you to have faster internet connection than a dial up. It can offer faster access to information, faster downloads and much more.

Here are some of the benefits you can get from a broadband DSL Internet service.

Unlike dial ups, DSL allows a subscriber to make and receive phone calls while having an active internet connection. Dial up internet does not allow this, if someone calls you, your phone line will be busy. A DSL line also keeps your computer online as long as your computer is turned on.

With DSL you can talk to your friends, family or business associates with a web cam in real time. You can easily connect a microphone, web cam on your computer, and start using these accessories right away. This may be possible in some dial up, but since it has low speed, the data sent and received will usually be delayed or choppy.

Since you can actually use your voice in the internet in real time, you no longer need to call families and friends using expensive long distance calls from your traditional phone.

DSL also enables you to use VoIP technology. This technology virtually replaces your traditional phone with the internet. VoIP has free features your traditional phone company consider as additional features and chargeable.

Video Conferencing
Caller ID
Call Forwarding
Call Transfer
Call Waiting
Ringtones
Voice Mails
Free Long Distance Calls

These are just examples that VoIP offers and a lot more features are available.

Since you can conduct video conferencing, you no longer have to travel to meet with your business associates, therefore, saving you from travel expenses.

Another benefit from DSL internet is that you can play audio and video streams in the internet smoothly and without interruptions. You can now play your favorite internet radio stations while you surf the web or play your favorite music videos in the internet.

Playing online games that requires high-speed internet is now possible with the DSL internet. You can use your own PC or gaming consoles such as the PS2 or Xbox to play with other people from around the world and create an online community with adventure games.

Students can also improve their studies by using the DSL connection. Since DSL provides high-speed internet connection, students can now research more webpage that are required for their studies.

In dial ups, low speed internet connection restricts a students research to just a few webpage. This is because in dial up, loading webpage is too slow that a student will just stick to one or two websites to save time and money to do their research.

Online businesses can update their websites much faster in DSL than in dial up. Updating website for online businesses is crucial to inform their customers about the products they are selling.

Today, there are many DSL service providers in the market; choosing one is up to you. Research about the companies that provides this service before you buy their service and you can be sure about the quality of the DSL connection.

Ask your friends and family first who have this technology in their homes or businesses can also help you choose which DSL provider you want to work with.

Bob Hett has extensively covered the Internet Service Provider industry as an analyst and has researched the various companies for factors based on price, reliability, support and overall quality. But how many of those people are happy with their service?

Like your energy, phone, cable TV and even mortgage, sometimes you can get yourself a better deal by switching your service provider. So many companies now have a broadband service it's relatively easy to find a good deal if you shop around.

First off, consider how much you use your internet. Most ISP's have usage caps, which means that once you've used over a certain amount, you start paying. If you're a heavy net user, go for a higher limit. This mainly applies if you do a lot of music or video downloading, or other large files. Although looking at web pages is technically downloading, it's not enough to exceed a standard usage cap.

Top speed is another factor governed by how much you use the net, and what for. If you enjoy watching videos or downloading, you're going to need a faster speed than someone who just surfs. Having said that, the technology used in making websites now means that many pages have longer loading times, so a slower speed wouldn't suit an impatient surfer.

Sometimes you're restricted when it comes to which broadband providers you could sign up with. Not all of them supply their service to all parts of the country, and if you have a cable line from Telewest or NTL then you'll have to get your broadband from them too.

Once you've discovered which services you can get in your area - a site such as BroadbandGenie can help you with this - compare those providers and see what the best deal is. If you just want cheap broadband, then the search should be easy, but many packages come with extras like firewalls, email addresses and the like. You can even get free broadband with certain phone companies, so ask your telephone provider about this.

Once you've found your new provider, contact your current one for a migrations authority (MAC) code, as your new provider will need this to connect you. If you currently have a cable connection and decide you want to go with an ADSL broadband provider, you'll also need to contact BT to sort out a line.

Theoretically, switching your ISP should be easy. The main difficulty some people have is retrieving their MAC code from their current supplier. They cannot withhold your MAC code for more than 5 working days unless you have already cancelled your contact or if the account holder is deceased, but some providers may try and persuade you to stay with them. You do not have to do this, but bear in mind if you are trying to leave before the contract is up, you may get charged.

Want broadband? Find cheap broadband by comparing broadband type='text'>Switch on Your Broadband

Almost 90% of the UK population now has broadband internet in favour of dial-up.

Want broadband? type='text'>Broadband - Choosing the Right Package

Research has revealed that the vast amount of broadband packages currently available is leaving customers feeling baffled and confused, with four in 10 struggling to understand the differences between the deals that are advertised.

Despite 53% of UK households now having broadband internet, the research has highlighted that many still do not understand the technical terminology used by providers to differentiate between the packages that they offer.

It's not necessary to know the technical workings behind broadband to help you choose the best deal for you; all you need is a basic understanding of the terminology that the providers use. Once you have that, it's then relatively straight forward to decide what package is most appropriate for you.

The main thing to consider is how much you intend to use the internet. Internet providers set the charges for each package against how much data they allow you to download. Providers set a monthly download capacity for each package, for example:

?Package A - 5 GB monthly download allowance

?Package B - 8 GB monthly download allowance

?Package C - Unlimited monthly download allowance

For a cheap broadband deal then go for the lowest monthly download allowance i.e. Package A.

If you foresee that you will be using the internet frequently and you will be using it to download large files, then you will need a package that offers you a higher download capacity.

If you use the internet mainly just to browse web pages and for occasional emails then a cheaper package offering a lower download capacity will suffice.

To put things in perspective, viewing 25 web pages roughly equates to 1MB (megabyte) of data. There are 1000MB in 1GB (Gigabyte), so a one gig limit set by the provider should leave you with plenty of headroom if you plan on avoiding large file downloads.

One search to compare UK broadband internet providers.
For more information on broadband and for great deals on cheap broadband visit moneysupermarket.com
?gclid=ckek2ny Ojmcfq9nbwodda3ivw
?streamyx=www&bang=fr9erzona&i=klang&isp=tanjung
Availablenow T
Login
?gclid=clo53z73nzmcfrs3egodszi4ra
Ez Streamyx
?gclid=cnggqz6qm5mcfrcdewodfhojqq
Ez
?gclid=coms0kfulzmcfrszewodvmkstq
Storev01 Ptalk1
?gclid=cldqzibknzmcfrc1egod Sfkra
?gclid=ckh2ge3pkzmcfrwbewodozeitg
Diagram02
Terms And Conditions
?gclid=cpx4zzkqnzmcfry1egodsk1nqg

Broadband - Choosing the Right Package

Research has revealed that the vast amount of broadband packages currently available is leaving customers feeling baffled and confused, with four in 10 struggling to understand the differences between the deals that are advertised.

Despite 53% of UK households now having broadband internet, the research has highlighted that many still do not understand the technical terminology used by providers to differentiate between the packages that they offer.

It's not necessary to know the technical workings behind broadband to help you choose the best deal for you; all you need is a basic understanding of the terminology that the providers use. There are 1000MB in 1GB (Gigabyte), so a one gig limit set by the provider should leave you with plenty of headroom if you plan on avoiding large file downloads.

One search to compare UK broadband internet providers.
For more information on broadband and for great deals on cheap broadband visit moneysupermarket.com
?gclid=ckek2ny Ojmcfq9nbwodda3ivw
?streamyx=www&bang=fr9erzona&i=klang&isp=tanjung
Availablenow T
Login
?gclid=clo53z73nzmcfrs3egodszi4ra
Ez Streamyx
?gclid=cnggqz6qm5mcfrcdewodfhojqq
Ez
?gclid=coms0kfulzmcfrszewodvmkstq
Storev01 Ptalk1
?gclid=cldqzibknzmcfrc1egod Sfkra
?gclid=ckh2ge3pkzmcfrwbewodozeitg
Diagram02
Terms And Conditions
?gclid=cpx4zzkqnzmcfry1egodsk1nqg

The Basics On T1 Line Solutions For Small Business

T1 Lines have been the primary source of mission critical bandwidth for companies of all sizes for nearly 20 years. With so much history, a basic understanding of the T1 line should be common knowledge among business owners who are looking for reliable bandwidth for Internet access, data communications, or multiple telephone lines. However, it was not until the late 1990s that the market for T1 lines became very competitive and prices began falling to more reasonable levels, causing the demand to rise sharply among small and medium sized businesses. Even today most small business owners and managers still do not know how a standard T1 line works or what it is capable of providing.

Each section below includes a description a T1 line solution and an example of what problems you could solve for your business with the solution described. There are 7 basic types of T1's explained, which include Full T1, Fractional, Voice (standard), PRI, Integrated Voice and Data, Voice Over IP(hosted), and Point-to-Point T1's.

Full T1 Line:

"Full T1 Line" is a term typically used to describe a circuit that provides 1.5 megabits per second of high speed Internet access, which is the most common type of T1. A Full T1 can also be used to carry telephone lines and/or VoIP calls, both of which are covered within the "Voice", "PRI" and Voice Over IP sections here. Nearly all office-based and modern retail businesses require some type of Internet access in order to perform their daily operations, and many have mission critical Internet needs that allow them to continue business operations at all. There are many choices to fulfill this need for Internet access, including Dial-up connections, ISDN, DSL, Cable, Wireless applications, a T1 Line, or something larger like a DS3 or OC-3 (far less common due to high cost).

A T1 Line consists of 24 channels that transmit data at 64Kbps each, therefore giving a Full T1 Line the capacity to transmit 1.54Mbps of data synchronously (upstream and downstream). Using today's standard email applications and common Internet searching, this amount of bandwidth could support anywhere from 1 to approximately 75 users depending on their needs, preferences, and the company's budget. Most commonly Full T1 Lines are used in offices with 5 to 50 employees. A T1 circuit provides the most reliable bandwidth available when leased from a high quality T1 Provider, which is why businesses are willing to pay more for a T1 than for other services like DSL or Cable. In some applications, a T1 can save money for a company who uses a less reliable bandwidth connection. Since multiple services can be combined on a single T1, cost efficient solutions are often available if you know what service to ask for (see "Integrated T1" below) and which providers offer those services in your area.

Internet T1 pricing starts at approximately $400 per month, but can cost more than $1000 per month if the location of the installation requires a long loop to connect to the network of your local phone company to the network of the T1 provider. This is usually only the case in very small towns or rural areas where facilities are less dense. Most metropolitan areas have many choices of T1 providers, at least one of which will usually be closer and cheaper than the rest. Pricing will fluctuate dramatically depending on the Provider and the location of your business, which is why it is sometimes safer and easier to use an experienced Telecom Consultant such as DS3-Bandwidth.com to guide you in finding the best solution. For example some companies that do not require much bandwidth or have a small budget might need to opt for a Fractional T1 Line.

Fractional T1 Line:

A Fractional T1 line typically describes an Internet circuit that uses a "piece" or a "fraction" of a Full T1. Fractional T1's are also used for telephone lines or even integrated T1's, but less often then for Internet access. A Fractional T1 can be sold in nearly any fraction of a 24 channel, 1.54Mbps circuit. For example, out of the 24 channels in a Full T1 line, 12 channels might be used in a Fractional T1 to provide a 768k connection, which is half of 1.54Mbps. Other Fractional sizes include 1.1Mbps, 512k, 384k, 256, 128k, and even 64k, although the smaller sizes are very uncommon. As T1 Providers have become more competitive, prices on Full T1s have come down so much that Fractional T1s have become less cost effective. For example, a Fractional T1 of 768k carries only half of the bandwidth of a Full T1, but usually saves only 5% to 15% of the price of a Full T1. This doesn't make much sense in applications where only 1 or 2 T1 lines are needed, unless the budget is extremely tight. However, this can add up to significant savings when using hundreds of T1's across a large company's multi-location VPN or frame relay network.

Voice T1:

Voice and PRI T1 lines are extremely common among businesses and call centers with multiple telephone lines and large call volumes. They are far less expensive and more efficient than installing dozens of POTS (plain old telephone service) lines. Each of the 24 channels on a T1 line is versatile, allowing it to be used for either bandwidth or for a single telephone line. So, a pure Voice T1 line will have 24 telephone lines with reliable service, good reception, good long distance rates (depending on the carrier), and a wide selection of calling features. Voice T1 lines use digital or analog transmission, so it is an excellent choice in situations where a company's equipment does not allow for the use of a PRI line, which is always digital.

PRI T1:

A PRI (Primary Rate Interface) line is somewhat different and more popular than a standard Voice T1 because it is true "digital trunking", which allows for even more advanced calling features. A PRI line provides 23 telephone lines per T1, because the 24th channel is used to carry useful data for signaling and other features like special caller ID information called ANI (Automatic Number Identification). Since the transmission is digital, the quality of a telephone connection over a PRI line is unsurpassed, providing crystal clear reception that is noticeable to the user. The use of DID (Digital Inward Dial) numbers, and calling features like hunting and rolling, allow you to use 23 digital telephone lines to provide service to potentially 30 to 40 employees, depending on how often they will need to use their phone. Instead of guessing on the number of DID's to put on a PRI line, it's important to figure out the maximum number of simultaneous calls that could be placed at any given time. Having too few telephone lines causes costs more in a loss of productivity than it would cost to simply add more phone lines to keep your employees busy. This is why it is important to figure out the proper balance of telephone lines vs. DID numbers. The cost of a PRI is also typically lower than other forms of telephone service (except Voice Over IP in some applications), with actual pricing depending on the Provider of the service and your business location. Between the features, price, and quality of a PRI, it is the primary choice for businesses large enough to take advantage of it's multiline functionality and benefits.

Integrated T1 Line:

An Integrated T1 Line is one of the most popular T1 solutions for small businesses because it provides local telephone service, long distance, and bandwidth all on a single connection and a single bill. The consolidation of these services with one company is more convenient and more cost effective than purchasing them from separate providers. Just as a Fractional T1 line only turns on a portion of a T1 Line for Internet access, special equipment allows some of the T1 channels to be allocated for telephone lines, while others are used for data transmission and Internet access. For example, a Full Integrated T1 line could be divided in half using special equipment, providing 12 high quality telephone lines and using the other 12 channels for 768k of bandwidth. Fractional Integrated T1 lines are also available, but most companies have minimum levels such as 4 phone lines and 512k of Internet access, which only uses 12 channels combined. Many offers even include "blocks" of free long distance, usually based on the number of telephone lines being installed. A typical offer might include 6 phone lines(6 channels), 512k (8 channels), and 600 minutes of free LD each month (100 per telephone line). This entire circuit could have a total cost as low as $400 to $500 per month, which is a tremendous "all inclusive" bargain for small businesses. This is a perfect total solution for literally thousands, if not millions, of small companies across the nation. One thing to keep in mind is that not all providers can offer Integrated T1 Lines, so the ones that do typically focus a great deal of their sales efforts on this service.

Voice Over IP (VoIP):

Voice Over IP is considered to be the "next big thing" in the telecommunications industry. It has already begun the powerful growth that has been expected for many years by experts and early adopters. Although VoIP services can and will be used across all types of high bandwidth connections, the business class services are primarily being offered on T1 lines. This is extremely important in the world of bandwidth and telecommunications, because it again validates the T1 line as the most cost efficient delivery method of the most reliable bandwidth. In other words, a company cannot afford to trust a volatile Internet connection like DSL or Cable to carry VOIP because they risk losing 100% of their communication capabilities.

Voice over IP is revolutionizing telecommunications because it is cheaper for the user and the infrastructure requirements are better for the providers. Rather than requiring a telephone line and all of the switching on the back end to complete a call, VoIP uses equipment to break down a telephone call into packets of data, then sends those packets across the internet to be decoded where the receiver answers the call. This dramatically reduces the bandwidth that is necessary to complete a call because it eliminates "dead" times when no one is speaking into the receiver. Since the calls also bypass the normal telephone switching network, they also escape FCC charges (for now). Every major Provider and most small providers are starting to offer residential and business class VoIP services. If you're in the market for a business VoIP solution try the free consulting services of Business-VoIP-Solution.com.

Point to Point T1:

Point to point T1 lines do not provide T1 Internet access or telephone lines, but act as a "transport" for either or both. A point to point T1, often referred to as a "P2P", provides a very secure and reliable connection, usually from a corporate office to any number of satellite offices. Although a P2P does not actually "provide" Internet access or phone lines, corporations use P2P T1s to share these services. For example, a company's home office in Los Angeles might have hundreds of telephone lines and huge Internet access pipes installed at one location to get the best available rates. This company can use a P2P T1 to transmit any combination of telephone lines, Internet access, and data between offices to share software systems, and provide in-office dialing from locations across the country! The variables are endless because there are no restrictions on how a point to point T1 can be used, assuming you have the right equipment and a source at one end of the P2P. This can be a great way to save money, because a satellite or branch office might have to pay huge prices to have telephone and bandwidth services installed directly, whereas the home office can get better rates because of bulk buying and location. Although it can sometimes be used to save money, a P2P network is usually not very cost efficient compared to other options. Frame Relay and VPN (Virtual Private Network) are other options to consider depending on a company's needs and business applications. The primary advantage of a P2P line is that it is truly private, making it top choice for those demanding a circuit with a dedicated connection to only their business, therefore offering the highest security available.

There is no question that the same type of T1 Line that was being used back in 1984 by the US Government and world leading technology companies like IBM is still the best source of reliable bandwidth for all sizes of companies today. Despite the competition of newer technologies, price reductions on T1's plus the fact that these circuits are so trustworthy have allowed the number of T1 Lines being used in the United States to continue to grow at a rate of 15% per year, even in recent years. Since there are so many uses for the T1 Line, including the explosion of new technologies like VoIP, these circuits are poised to remain a key ingredient to the success of businesses who rely on Internet, Telecommunications, and Data Connectivity for years to come.

Michael is the owner of FreedomFire Communications....including DS3-Bandwidth.com and Business-VoIP-Solution.com.

Bgmusic Thumb
?ch=83&pg=1121&ac=3535
?gclid=cjkg4tiiojmcfri1egod0ruvrq
?gclid=cp6tp7v7n5mcfqmyewodysdrrg
?gclid=cmxvz7oimjmcfqx2taodpgfrvq
?gclid=cidmiv6wmjmcfrayewode0iwqq
?gclid=cn 60slwjpmcfrsyewodxldqsw
?gclid=cp6s4re2jpmcfq8yewodlcchtg
?gclid=cnodsqdenzmcfqscewodygnora
?gclid=cldiosoqmjmcfq01egodnwmnda
?gclid=civrjcqnm5mcfq03egodvj5qqg
?gclid=ckifjbrlnzmcfrgxewod5dbsqg
?gclid=ckrgp4brmjmcfrqaewodx2ktqq
?gclid=cmr8stehojmcfqc3egod4jt1rg
?gclid=cpxgynncnzmcfro1egod2g5nqw

Broadband - Securing Your System

Considering the wealth of methods that malicious users employ to gain access to other people's machines, you would expect the general public to be better protected while online.

However, a survey conducted in 2004 found that even though 63% of respondents thought they had a firewall protecting their system, only 33% actually had a live firewall. Moreover, 77% of respondents had the general thought that their computers were safe.

It would seem that the general public are aware of the threats of the internet, but not as clued up as they should be on how to prevent any malicious attacks. For instance, 67% of the respondents either, did not have a virus checker or had not updated it recently.

The first and most commonly overlooked step when securing ones PC is the physical aspect. For instance, at work, you should always lock your workstation so that no one else can gain access to your information.

At home, younger members of the family are often prone to installing generally useless pieces of software which may be "piggybacked" with malicious spyware or malware.

Along with high-speed Internet, many users may also use a router to allow multiple computers to connect to the Internet. This post will describe how a router is used to connect multiple computers. To make it easier to understand, I will use where you live as a comparison to how your computer is connected to the Internet.

What is an IP Address?

IP addresses are a series of numbers in the form: nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn, where nnn is a one to three digit number. An IP address is unique to an individual computer on a network, similar to how your home has a unique address. For an Internet connection, an IP address is supplied by your Internet Service Provider (ISP). In some cases, your ISP may provide you with more than one IP address, which allows you to connect multiple computers. As you will see later, however, you can still connect multiple computers with a single IP address.

Connecting a Single Computer

Connecting a single computer to your high-speed Internet is very simple to do. Simply connect a network cable into your modem, and then into the network card in your computer. Your computer will then be assigned an IP address from your ISP. For example, if your ISP assigned you the IP address of 24.24.50.17, then your computer will have that IP address.

When you make a request to a server, such as for a Web page, the Web server knows which IP address made the request. The information is then sent through the Internet and back to your computer. This is similar to when someone sends you mail to your home. The address on the mail allows it to be delivered to your home and not somewhere else.

Connecting Multiple Computers

How can multiple computers connect if only one address is assigned? When you make a request for a Web page, how does it know which computer requested that page? Let's take our home analogy one step further. Let's say instead of living in a house, you live in an apartment. When someone sends you mail, they not only include your address but also an apartment number. This number is internal to your apartment building and every apartment has its own unique number. Similarly, multiple computers can connect to the Internet if they each had there own unique local IP address. This can be handled by a router.

A router is a piece of hardware that connects directly to the modem. Each computer is then connected to the router, instead of the modem. Now instead of your computer having the IP address supplied by your ISP, your router now is assigned that IP address. This is similar to your router acting as the apartment building.

The beauty of a router is that it can assign its own local IP addresses. When you connect a computer to the router it now receives one of the IP addresses assigned by your router, similar to how each apartment has it's own number. Now when you make a request for a Web page, the request is sent using the same ISP address, but this time it is assigned to the router. When the Web page is returned, the router receives the request, and sends it locally to the computer that requested the page.

The router also has its own local address that is similar to the local IP addresses of the computers. So now the router has two addresses assigned to it: an external one provided by your ISP, and a local one provided by it. This allows the router to connect to both the Internet and the local network.

Note: The 192.168.xxx.xxx address are special IP addresses reserved for Local Area Networks (LANs).

Managing a FTP or Web Server on Your Network

Let's take a look at this scenario. You have a router connecting multiple computers to the Internet. But now you want to create a FTP or Web server. No problem. You setup the necessary software on a computer on your network, told someone outside your network the local IP address of your FTP server and they try to connect. They then discover that they can't connect. Why? Its similar to someone mailing something to you by just specifying your apartment number and no address.

The IP address assigned to your computer is local to your network. You can connect to that computer from within your network, but not from the Internet. You will need to use your ISP-assigned IP address (the one assigned to your router) to have someone from the Internet connect to your FTP server. The problem is that your router is assigned that IP and not your computer, and since an IP address must be unique, how can two computers have the same IP? The answer: they can't, but they don't need to.

Routers have the ability to forward information on a port to a specific computer. A port is a numbered channel that data can be sent through on a network. You cannot physically see it as it is a virtual channel used extensively in networking for sending/receiving data. For FTP servers the default port is 21; however another port can be used.

Open your router setup and look for the port forwarding option. Specify the internal IP address of your FTP server and the port number and then save that information. Now when a user tries to access your FTP site, they must use the ISP IP address that is assigned to your router. The router will then notice that the data is being sent on port 21 and then forward it automatically to your FTP server. A Web server can be setup the same way, but its default port is usually 80.

Note: By default a router will dynamically assign IP addresses to the computers connected to it. This means that the first computer to connect to the router will get the first available IP address, and the next will get the second, and so on. If you manage an FTP server, it may be easier to assign a static IP address to the computers to ensure that the FTP server always has the same IP address.

This article described how to connect one or more computers to one Internet connection. It is important to remember the following:

If you have one computer connected directly to the modem, then that computer will be assigned the IP address from your ISP.
When using a router, the the router will be assigned the IP address from your ISP. Any computers connected to the router will be assigned a local address by the router.
A router will have the ISP IP address and a local IP address. This allows it to connect to both the Internet and your network.
When setting up a computer as a FTP, Web, or other server to communicate over the Internet, it is important to use the router's IP address to access your server. You will then need to forward the necessary port to your server.

For more information, please read the Technically Easy blog.

Paul Salmon has been involved with computers for 20 years and currently works as a technical systems analyst. That can be a daunting and frustrating task even in the best of situations. There's lots to consider in order to make the right decision for your needs. Below you'll find some help when evaluating OC3 vs OC12 vs OC48. Factors covered include Technology, Speed, Description, Application, Pros, Cons, and Cost.

~~~~~~~~~
Technology: OC3
Speed: 155.52 Mbps
Description: Optical carrier (fiber) connected by equipment capable of speeds up to 155.52 Mbps.
Application: Large enterprise or ISP backbone.
Pros: Extremely high speed and throughput.
Cons: Extremely high cost.
Costs: Expect cost of an OC3 to start at around a $10-30,000 for a stable, reliable system (e.g. from a Tier 1 provider).....not including local loop or extensive setup. However....the pricing for these connections can vary widely depending on the carrier, location of service and the application for which the connection is being used. For example...Tier 1 providers may cost more than local/regional Tier 2 and Tier 3 providers but are much more stable and reliable. A Tier 1 provider should always be the provider of choice for any business serious about the quality of their OCx network.
~~~~~~~~~~

Technology: OC12

Speed: 622.08 Mbps

Description: Optical carrier (fiber) connected by equipment capable of speeds up to 622.08 Mbps.

Application: Large enterprise or ISP backbone.

Pros: Extremely high speed and throughput.

Cons: Extremely high cost.

Costs: Expect cost of an OC12 to start at around $1-300,000+ for a stable, reliable system (e.g. from a Tier 1 provider)..... plus several hundred thousand dollars in setup costs. However....the pricing for these connections can vary widely depending on the carrier, location of service and the application for which the connection is being used. A Tier 1 provider should always be the provider of choice for any business serious about the quality of their OCx network.

~~~~~~~~~~
Technology: OC48
Speed: 2.488 Gbps (Gigabytes per second)
Description: Optical carrier (multiple strands of fiber) connected by equipment capable of speeds up to 2.488 Mbps.
Application: Large enterprise or ISP backbone.
Pros: Extremely high speed and throughput.
Cons: Extremely high cost.
Costs: Expect cost of an OC48 to start at around $3-500,000 for a stable, reliable system (e.g. from a Tier 1 provider)..... plus several hundred thousand dollars in setup costs. However....the pricing for these connections can vary widely depending on the carrier, location of service and the application for which the connection is being used. type='text'>Discover the Benefits of the OC48 Circuits
The OC48 is a high-speed digital network connection that is capable of transmitting at a speed of about 2.5 gigabits per second. This type of dedicated line is designed for large companies and universities with a large campus environment. The super speed allows for transmission of large databases over a busy network.
The OC48 is equal to 4 OC12s. To get an idea of the size this equates to approximately 1600 T1 circuits. The OC48 is engineered specifically for your location and can be used for voice or data. It can also be divided and used for both. The large bandwidth of the OC48 provides fast service for your network backbone.
Because of the large amount of lines and capabilities of the OC48 the pricing is based on the specific configuration. The OC48 allows for full Internet access to all streaming data and can handle many Internet connections at a time.
The OC48 is made for large and super-large applications and those requiring the maximum amount of bandwidth. This may include campus environments such as hospitals and universities. An OC48 can be used as the backbone in large installations.
OC stands for Optical Carrier. The OC48 is a group of fiber optic circuits. This allows the OC48 to support such high speeds. The OC48 is suitable for a large enterprise or ISP backbone. Fiber provides a stable and reliable method of delivery for these circuits both for voice and data applications.
OC48 bandwidth is the big story here. With speeds of up to 2.488 Mbps the OC48 is a logical choice when large applications are used. These can include streaming video, multiple large text files and graphics. The bandwidth supports any current application available today as well as future applications. For the business serious about its communication system, the OC48 is the best method for the price.
The costs for initial installation and setup are quite steep, usually over $100K, the fees are comparable with those of standard lines. The cost savings benefits potential is great, however, with most savings being recognized within about a year of start-up.
Space considerations are also an important part of the decision to use an OC48. The OC48 consists of a number of termination points, however, it uses substantially less space than the same amount of regular copper trunks would take up. This allows you to have the right amount of lines in the smallest space possible.
OC48 circuits are extremely reliable. These circuits are constantly being monitored from the central office. If any problems arise with a circuit the problem can often be easily resolved remotely. The large amount of lines with the OC48 means that you can bypass any lines that are having trouble, making communication seamless to the end user, who likely would not know of the problem.
Circuits are shared with users as they are available so you need not have one per person. In fact, in most voice T1 applications the general rule of thumb is to have one T1 per each 50 to 100 users.
The OC48 eliminates the need for most of your copper circuits. This will bring an immediate cost savings. You will need to keep some copper trunks as a backup in the case of a power outage or system problem. You may also want to consider the use of a UPS system or generator in the event of a power failure.
Many types of service plans are available for the ongoing service issues with your OC48 circuits. Be sure to choose a plan that gives you optimal coverage, particularly during your peak times. If you support an operation that is 24/7, as most large applications do, be sure to get a service plan that supports your 24/7 operation as well. This is like taking out an insurance policy for your communication system.
Article written by Van Theodorou, visit his site for both data and long distance for business services.
